    line

I'm going to be doing my reels, I was wondering how much line would fit, I always had the shop do it. I have a older penn 80. just I need to know what size spools to get and such, I'm going to put on 100 backing and splice mono into it. I may also just do straight dacron. thanks

also can you take wind on leaders and go to a dacron line? or is it better to mono?

I'd fill w/ Jerry Brown spectra and leave enough for 100yds or longer I've got prob 150-200 yards of 130lb moimoi this way here you can change you line 2 or more times a year when I've got a few fish on them.

dacron or JB if you talked to Bryan at the seminar he handed out some papers on splicing tuff line to JB also which is another way to go. like said before you can just change out your headers (the mono) very easily. if you are still considering GBFT i would go heavier than 100 just to take away the light line variable. with wind ons you can just go from a braid or hollow core to a small spro then the wind on with little problem thats how I run the 130 kite setups.

If you go with JB, you may still want a shop to pack it on nice and tight. Then, you can do the splicing yourself.

PS I use JB 130# on my 50s (it's cheaper). It's great stuff. You could even pack 200# JB to your 80s and still have plenty of room for 100# or 130# mono over it.

    Chumtini,

How much 130lbs do you get on your 50's, I have 50VSW's and was wondering how much would go on and then how much of a top shot?

    Thanks,

I've got the same reels (50VSW). It's been a while. I'll guess about 600 yds with about 300-400 feet of 100# momoi diamond. It's plenty and like I said, the 130# JB is a little cheaper than the 80#

I have #200 JB hollow core and #200 Momoi diamond hollow core on each of my 80W Tiagras. I think there is about 6 or 700 yards on each, then I put a top shot of 150-200 yards of #130 diamond onto that.

If you are thinking of doing it yourself, just make sure that before the first trip take out the reels and dump all the line off the back of the boat and then reel it back on. The drag from the water is enough to pack it down. Don't put anything other then a swivel on the end of the line, because it really sucks to pack on when you have 700 yards of line out there. Don't need no extra drag.......

i was thinking of just jamming the spool with something and cranking it in the holder on the boat, so i guess ill buy a 1200 spool of 130 JB and some 130 top shot and a line counter. going on 2 reels. how accurate are those things?

how come the 130 jb is cheaper than the 80?, by a lot...a spool of 2500 yards is 300 and then for the 80 its like 500
