Its cheaper because I believe it is easier to make the #130 then it is the #80. You should have plenty to spool both reels. Then put a nice long top shot of mono on the reel, to keep the braid out of the rigger clips. Cool tip picked up from chumtini there.....

simple freshwater wet packing trick..5 gallon bucket with fresh water, drop in the spool of dacron, use a piece of wood (2x6) that just fits inside the bucket and have a pal put pressure on the spool while you wind it on..( i mounted a rod holder in my workbench so i didnt have to hold the rod)...you wont need much pressure on the spool.. just steady tension. the freshwater wont corrode your spool on the reel and by wetpacking there wont be any 'knifing' of the line during a fight.

Dacron is not a problem. It will last just as long as JB if you take care of it. Just my 2 cents but you do not need that much line on your reels, especially fishing in a small boat like yours. You have way to much maneuverability in a small boat to need such capacity. By the time you have that much line in the water you better be almost to free spool or your going to be popping all sorts of gear. 130 JB is just going to be to dangerous to handle on big fish. Better make sure you have gloves on.

Gotta take issue with this...dacron is way more abrasive than hollow braided spectra. Just run some through your hands and tell me which one burns you. Dacron hands down more abrasive.

Stand-up anglers handle hollow spectra on 300lb+ YFT dozens of time a year, no "danger" there. I've fished it for 2 weeks straight at a time and all you need is a little flex-wrap on your fingers.

Certainly no disrespect here but I just dont see the correlation of fighting a fish standup to fishing an 80 out of the holder where there is a great deal more hands on the line. Dacron may be more abrassive, but in my opinion dealing with 200lb dacron is a lot safer than 130 braid that is the size of what, 60lb or 50lb line.

Just my opinion but I think the diameter of the line is the issue not how abrasive the material is.

well yeah, ill have gloves on. when fishing i keep my drags set low enough that what ever im doing doesnt pull line.

i looked up the specs for 130 lb jerry brown on a standard 80, says 1700 yards will fit. now some of you are saying to add 600-700 then 100-200 of mono so will my spool be filled? because thats what im looking for.

This is only my opinion but using a top shot that is 300 yds long or so just defeats the purpose. When you go to change out your topshot that is a pretty expensive endeavor. I would prefer a 150yds max. 1700 yds is so much line especially fishing on stellwagon or surrounding waters where your not dealing with depths over say 300 ft. If you get over 400 or 500 yds out on a fish you have a lot more problems than how much line is left on your reel. Your boat is small enough to stay right on the fish. I would think 200jb would be a good fit if you would rather use braid than dacron. Use the 200 just to take up more room on the reel you will never see the bottom 1000yds of your reel with 130.
