For Lake Champlain Restoration Efforts
Colchester, VT—June 9th, 2010 marked another LCI Governor’s Cup in the books. Governor Jim Douglas and
Lake Champlain International, Inc. (LCI) hosted the 3rd LCI Governor’s Cup charity catch-and-release fishing derby
at the Vermont Fish and Wildlife access on Colchester Point to raise awareness for Lake Champlain fisheries and
the importance of carrying on the fishing heritage to conservation efforts.
With the beautiful weather came a great turnout for competitors and spectators alike. Lieutenant Governor Brian
Dubie, Auditor Tom Salmon, US Senate Candidate Len Britton, Executive Director of NEIWPC Ron Poltak, VT
Sen. Dick Mazza, State Sen. & Lt. Gov Candidate Phil Scott, VT Lt. Gov Candidate Mark Snelling, VT Parks
Commissioner Sarah Clark, and many other LCI supporters came out to show their support for Lake Champlain
fisheries and LCI’s youth conservation education efforts.
This year the cup was won by the team led by William Lanzetta of Colchester, VT. LCI benefactor, long-time
Father’s Day Derby presented by Yamaha angler, and previous volunteer to the organization, Lanzetta finally won the
Governor’s Cup hardware after two failed attempts. John Lanzetta, William’s brother, caught a whopping 8.8-pound
carp to put their total fish weighed in to 12.84 pounds. The 2009 Cup was landed by the team from Vermont’s
Agency of Natural Resources. Visit http://www.mychamplain.net/forum/201...rs-cup-results for a

“What a memorable morning it was to share some time with my brother, my friends, and the people who work
hard to make our lake clean, clear, and full of fish” Lanzetta commented. “It was a great feeling putting all
technology aside, and relaxing on a river bank with a single pole, a hook, and some worms. Our team caught six
different species of fish in a short amount of time in the same spot. It shows the abundance of fish Lake
Champlain has to offer to the average fisherman. People should take advantage of this great resource.”
“It was a great honor and a lot of fun to participate in the 3rd Annual LCI Governor’s Cup,” said Governor
Douglas. “This event is a great way to highlight Vermont’s unmatched outdoor resources and deepen our
commitment to Lake Champlain and the state’s fisheries, while benefiting great causes. I thank LCI for putting on
another successful derby and look forward to this tradition continuing with our next Governor.”
LCI would like to thank Governor Douglas for his support of Lake Champlain restoration while in office, finding
time to come out and fish for the next generation, and for his leadership in helping to establish the cup.
The Cup has now raised $14,850 for youth conservation education and fisheries restoration and water quality
enhancement efforts. Please visit http://www.mychamplain.net/2010-lci-benefactors for a complete list of our

successful Governor’s Cup.
