Kite fishing question
Hey guys, I'm new to the whole kite fishing thing, and was hoping that you guys could answer a question for me...
When you guys fish live mackerels, do you replace them as soon as they stop splashing around, or do you let them hang around for a little while longer? Within 30 seconds of my first kite deployment on Tuesday, I ended up catching and releasing a fat 68 inch fish, so I've become a big fan of the kite thing.
I hook my macks right through the back, and can't seem to keep them alive for more than 30 minutes or so. Do you guys switch them out that often?
Also, anyone have any recommendations for a forum similar to this one that focuses more on fishing Jefferey's?

are you hooking them too deep?

been hooking them as shallow as possible, but lately its been tough to find any big mackerel. Tinkers and a 11/0 hook don't mix too well... Going to try sewing them tomorrow and see how that works.

sewing them will make them live alot longer.
also, keep them deep enough so they rarely come out of the water. you want some splash but if they can swim without a problem they do circles and the thump thump thump of their tail beats call in the fish.
good luck!
