Anyone know if the KAISERtwist (large haywire twist tool) is available at any tackle shops, or directly from the man himself.

Saw a few recently at Watch Hill Outfitters in RI and JB Tackle in Niantic, CT. Give them a call.
i do better with vice grips and my hands
Good on you Clint, with just a little ingenuity and a 16 penny spike it can be done just as good. Its so possible. Not bashing a good tool, it has its place with the majority of fisherman, it's just that this is how we made our leaders back when there wasn't a tool for this purpose and why ruin a good trait! By the way my good freind at Watch Hill Outfitters has used the Kaiser twist tool and it performs flawlessly.
haha i know, it is a pretty handy tool
Sushi 42, I respectfully disagree. How you handel your wire during the twist process is critical to maintain the wires orgional strength. Even making your loop in the wires memory direction can influnce the stregnth of the conection.
The Kaiser tool has very carefully calculated radius that "roll" the wire into the twist and does not bend it like you do with vice grips.
Another way of thinking about is , wire is sort of like rebar for concrete. Take a pc of rebar slide it into a pipe and bend it into a 90 deg. you will see on the tenson side of the bend there is small cracking being devoliped. take that same pc of rebar and bens a 90 in it using the corect dies and a tool designed for that and you will see no fractures.
Leader wire is the same. Can you make a pretty twist by hand, for sure. will it have the same stregnth as a kaisertwist, no it is physicly not possible
Kaiser, again I'll choose my words carefully. With that said I will match my leaders to any other leaders done using your handy tool. Not trying to disrespect your twist utensil but I know steel, I know rebar, and I know wire. If you knew me you would know that I too make fishing gear and tackle for fisherman. Much of it is done with wire. I actually teach this at the sportsman shows and seminars. We are talking about 18 wire with shark leaders and trust me, a pair of linesman pliers won't destroy the integrity of the steel. Again, this is a good tool for the majority of the fisherman nowadays, they're just not made like they use to be. Hope haven't upset you too much friend. This is a perfect example of why I don't spend hardly anytime on SFC anymore, can't give your 2 cents without hurting someone's feelings. Luckily my ex-wife got my feelings in the divorce.
Sushi, I am sorry i touched a nerve. Not trying to be a prick. I just disagree.
Catchem up this year!
