Despite all our wives griping about us going out on the ocean "in this weather?!" we had a decent day. There was about a 2-3 ft chop, heavy overcast and some occasional rain. We set up a slick in about 100 ft. and within about 15 minutes something bit one of the baits in half. A few minutes later I spotted a fin which wandered around for another fifteen minutes before working up the nerve to attack a dead bluefish. A brief fight brought in a five foot Hammerhead.
After we cut him off we hooked up to a four foot Brown shark which was pretty willing to come to the boat to have it's lip-piercing detached.
A short time later we hooked up to a small Mako which almost immediately wrapped itself up in the leader and broke it off when it got to the boat. About then the chum ran out and we could see a line of weather moving in so we took that as an indication that it was time to head for the barn.
So, our reward for braving less than perfect weather; some shark action without having to wade through a load of other boats and no sunburn. Nothing big, nothing to keep, but everybody got to play with some fishies and nobody got hurt. Seems like a good day fishing to me.
Pics: Hammerhead, Brown shark and the full extent of the local boat traffic. Sorry, didn't have a good pic of the Mako.
