I have taken a few looks around out there and its tough, if i could put baits in the water we could help catch even more of our quota.. duh.

we need a market for the dogs.
we need maximum allowable catch per day.
but nothing happens if the buyers cant dump the product.
You and "Blackhull SFC" should start a dogfish coalition I am sure he will bring his hedge trimmers. First step in the Dogfish issue is to get it removed from the shark category and stop the Greenys from telling people that eat them they are poisonous.

Loop Hole :... They said we can't sell them, but they did not say we could not practice harpooning them. I am going to do Dogfish Harpoon charters. I will duct tape you in the pulpit and charge you $1000 to stick as many as you can for 10 hours.

Sending letters for help!!

Rainy Weekend: I am sending five letters to organizations asking for help and support with the BFT industry.

Get off the couch and write at least one!! Send a letter in your own words with your own beliefs. We need support from many groups. I.E.: Fishing clubs, Fishing organizations, Government, Public figures and many more.

We need lawyers who are fishermen to write letters and study Laws to help find loopholes and file or threaten law suits.

We need money donated by people who can afford it to help support the groups involved.

Come up with some more ideas and follow through.

Response from NOAA

Here is a response letter I sent regarding letters sent through American Sportfishing Association http://www.asafishing.org/

Hello, Greg --
My understanding from Forbes Darby is that you have questions about
bluefin tuna and CITES. I would be happy to answer any of your
questions. Please let me know how I can be of assistance.
With best regards,
Laura

Hi Laura as you may know there are associations trying to add Bluefin Tuna to Cites list. Myself and some of my colleges in the charter fishing industry are trying to figure out how this listing will effect us. We are also concerned with the effect on our customers regarding this matter and retaining fish for their consumption.
Are there any other fish on Cites list that are commonly caught by charter boats and retained for consumption?
At this point our thoughts are negative on this subject! We feel that data is false and political favor is behind this issue. We also feel that National marine fisheries does not act as objective as it should regarding the US fishermen.
Western Atlantic Bluefin Tuna are making a comeback and the fishermen who catch these fish are the reason behind it. We lead the race to protect this fish and now the threat is there to take our bounty from us. More needs to be done to protect this fish in International waters. This is why the CITES list may help, "but" provisions must be made to protect the fisherman who have played by the rules.
My business and full time Job revolve around Bluefin tuna. I plan to protect myself to the fullest extent of the law if my livelihood is taken away from me. For all we have done to protect this fish is the government prepared to pay me for my suffering or to bail me out? The fishing industry is as important if not more important than Auto mobiles.
