Good luck, looking forward to the build. I hope you do a thread and update us as you get started and move forward with the project.
What would you do with the Holland? Sell it or keep it in the fleet?

Captain, you haven't indicated in any sort of detail the intended uses for your new boat. With that range and bunk capacity, it appears as though you're kind of looking at an expedition type vessel. Maybe a bit of overkill for overnighting at the BB, but it would do it in style. I'm guessing this boat is intended to go south in the winter?
Where's the outriggers?
IMHO, you're being optimistic about both the cost and speed of this boat. The engine and hull will be 2/3's of your quote. That's an awful lot of boat for 500hp. And you're right about the bow thruster.
The ice problem is mostly about management and intended use. Trying to cool a 100# tuna in a coffin box intended for a 900# giant doesn't work very well, as there is too much empty space to cool. The problem with cold plates is that they can't cool an empty box, and the amount of btu's you have to remove from a full fish box is considerable. Combining ice and cold plates would be a great system. Also, on most ice maker systems, you would have to use fresh water, which must be carried, and is heavy.
The pilothouse style is certainly cool looking, but you're giving up alot of cabin space by having it.
Let's hear more.
Don't worry about outriggers their will be at least 2 sets like Fortuna
The price is already set by the builder the quote is $250k including the installation of the engine (Yanmar 470)
They have built many of these 40 footers and speed is Guaranteed in quote.
Pilot house is forward on the fire wall giving more space for the customers in the salon plus it is walk around the bow is fish able.
12 x 14 cockpit 11 x12 Salon 6x12 Pilot house the rest is bow and cabin.
Planing a stick tower also.
Greg, check this out. Might like it, or maybe get some additional ideas. http://www.henriquesyachts.net/42charter.html
All of you guys have great input and I am looking forward to maintaining this thread through the build and purchase. Here is some more info and answers on the boat.
Someone mentioned going south? I do intend to keep the boat running 365 following Bluefin Tuna and gulf stream creatures. Chartering all year. I need to do this for a few years to get the boat paid off.
Creature comforts are secondary this is a fishing boat everything happens on deck. Although we do intend to have comfortable sleeping cooking and washing comforts.
Someone wanted to see the build sheet and costs? here is the list of the builders projects and prices. Remember I am going to be on site and working on the boat with Dave ( my brother inlaw and our mechanic.)installing wireing and plumbing and electronics and finish cabinetry.

Well, it isn't official but, keeping the Fortuna seems to be the main idea. She would definitely be booked for most of the season with multi boat parties/overflow and would be a great asset to have for Giant fishing (Assuming we can still fish for them...).
If financials are tight during the new build, Taylor, myself, and possibly one of my Maritime buddies may go partners on her and take her off my fathers hands...I hope![]()

Fortunate you have dug this hole before!!LOL That also sounds like the list I have every year getting the boats ready
you make a good point. Some of your list did remind me of a few things. I actually copied it for a reference.
