How has Stellwagen been looking lately?

Due to a horrific work and summer schedule, I'm looking to make my maiden voyage to stellwagen this weekend (weather permitting). I KNOW the tuna fishing has been great east of chatham this year, but from the lack of posting (other than Greg's recent post) I doesn't sound like it has been all that great on Stellwagen - or at least very sporadic. What says the people that have been going out there?

I suppose I'm going anyway, but always like to hear what I'm potentially getting myself into...

Lots of fish out there last weekend- we bagged a 58" on Friday and I know a good amount of fish in that same class were hooked that day and through the weekend.

Also, check out the Mass Bay Guides report on this site for more current (and always honest) Stellwagen intel.

I wish I didn't.... I saw some people hook up on live bait, but I was trolling. It sounded like not many people were hooking up at all though. Then the lightening storm... that is always nice and exciting. Oh well, I'll be back out there soon.

I was out there also managed to hook up early trolling rubber. Fish popped the hook at the boat. Radio chatter was minimal. The haul back to plymouth sucked! Dodged some electricty, took side ways rain and monster hail to the face for 25 miles! Fun stuff!

    After the lightening

We ran north to avoid the storm, thank you smart phone weather radar. The waves bumped up to 2 to 3 with whote caps for at least an hour then subsided. Around 1:30 the ocean calmed down and the fishing picked up. We marked at least 12 to 15 tuna, had three knock downs on the kite. and one leader break on a 80# casting set up after a quick fight. The seas were big enough to make my 24' Albemarle bounce like a cork so we kept the boat in gear and trolled the kite and baits. This expains the misses. Saw quite a few guys circle dancing with their tuna. Know of 8 boats that landed sub 59" fish. I just was not one of them.

PS- Nice whale show for most of the afternoon, kids were very pleased.
