Having an argument with someone here... obviously a lot of them are obvious, but does anyone have a link? I remember reading about it in a magazine a few years back.....

read a little WHOI history and you shall see there are a lot more canyons with a lot more history than we see on a chart.
Dogbody anyone?
Does anyone ever fish some of those way eastern canyons?
Munson, Lydonia, powell, Gilbert, Nygren, and looks like Corsair is in Canadian waters.
I have been as far as east of Lydonia on a boat out of ACK. Heaven!
Zooming in and out in Google Earth shows many canyon names that do not appear in Capt Segull's Charts...
Shallop, Sharpshooter, Filebottom, Chebacco....
It also has names for some canyons we know very well.... by other titles. Alvin (West Atlantis), Nantucket(East Atlantis), Block (Fishtails), McMaster-Ryan (Middle Grounds), Uchupi (The Dip)...etc

A lot of them are named for Oceanographers, either alive or an homage.
couple good reads on the history of Hydography and the fascinating history and reason behind the UK's Royal Hydrographic Office.
Winds and tides, anyone? Beaufort, Parry and I believe Harrison of Longitude fame were all Hydrographers...
