"The Hook-Up!"- Tammy Rose tuna report

The last few trips out east have been pretty good with today’s trip being excellent. I lost yesterday to the wind but I fished on Wed. We had two bites and two fish and I was pleased to get those. The bite had slowed down since last weekend but I knew the fishing would pick back up because we have been marking a lot of fish that just seemed not to be eating. I knew it would bust open soon. Today we had the Kay party and we headed out east in the morning to find that the small craft warnings were once again unnecessary as the wind and seas were light. As soon as we got on the grounds we got bit. A big fish came up and ate the right long but missed the hook. Then the right long went off and the rod went down and then came back up minus the rig. UGH!!! The bluefish had us again and this time the rig was gone. We started setting the rest of the spread out when a pod of tuna exploded right next to the boat and I was able to bait them and the shotgun went off and we were fighting a tuna. Mrs.Kay had drawn the lucky card and was first up in the harness. She fought the fish like a trooper and soon we had it gaffed and tail roped. The spread went back out and we had another fish on. This one was T&R at 54 inches. The bite then slowed down and we started a steady pick with a fish here and a bite there. By the end of the day we went 6 for 10 with 5 tunas tagged and released with the biggest being 58 inches. Just and awesome day with a great party! Thanks guys, it was a pleasure fishing with you today. There was a 75in tuna trolled up today and a very good friend of mine lost a big fish at the boat yesterday, after a 5 hour battle. He said it was around 500lbs and he broke it off just before he could get a harpoon shot on it. Tough luck for sure. The fishing is good so get out there. I will be out in the am and then off for a few days. I do have next Wed the 9th open for a tuna trip so if you’re interested please give us a call at 508-240-0778. Book you tuna trip now!!! Capt. Eric
