    HMS Permit

Do you guys get your HMS permit early in the year or do you wait to see if the regs change and get it right before you are ready to fish? I didn't see any reason to rush it, what do you do?

I wait until the day before my first trip. No need to spend money on it right now since we don't even know what we're dealing with.

The only reason to wait to apply for your permit is if you are not sure what category you plan on being in. If you dont have the proper safety gear and licences you have no choice what category you can legally fish in, so it wouldnt matter if you did it today, or in June.

I don't think it matters for the price of the permit. HMS permits are required for other species so I wouldnt worry about it too much and just make sure if you it when your ready to head offshore along with the right safety gear like it was mentioned above
