Smile Hi everyone, just introducing myself

Hi fellow fishing people. I am new and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Sue. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be than fishing. Now having said that, although I have fished fresh water since I was 5 yrs old, I am now living in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York and it is salt water for me now. I don't know alot about salt water fishing and I only fish off the pier or along the bay itself (no boat yet). I really don't know anyone that likes to fish here to ask questions, so I'm kind of winging it. I have tried using shrimp and speering so far, and have had more luck with speering, but very small fish. Caught one yesterday after hours and hours, very small also. I use 10 lb test line, one weight about midway between my hook and my float. Any suggestions that would better my chances?? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and it's so great to meet you all.
    Susan

    Susan, Welcome to SFC.

I'm not much of an expert on pier fishing, but it would help if you can tell us exactly what you're trying to catch. You can always ask other people fishing on the pier about the rigs they're using. Most people are happy to help a newbie and show off their expertise.

Also, there's plenty of party boats out of Sheepshead Bay, maybe you could spend a few $$$ to buy a ride and grab some education while you're there.

Good luck, and keep in touch.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

Welcome to SFC. A good idea to go out on a local Head(party) boat. Also a local bait and tackle shop should help.

Hello Sue! As a female who enjoys fishing, you have many avenue's to gain more knoledge, experience, etc. What you need to do is put yourself in a local where other people fish. I'm in Boston, so don't know New york, but I would think if you went to Montalk, and other"fishing" ports, you would be in good positition to meet tons of people willing and able to help you learn. A few yrs ago, a young lady here began to fish on "party" boats. took a room in motel so she could fish next day before going home, and before you know it she was a Mate on some of the best tuns boats on north shore of Boston.
Good Luck and don't be shy.

Welcome aboard, for the float rig I would use spearing as bait and keep letting line ot until either you cant see your float anymore or you get a hit, I would give fishing with clam on a top and bottom rig with an once or two lead a try as well.....just about everything eats a clam.

    Hi again everyone...........

Just wanted to say thanks for the warm welcome and taking the time to post to me. I went out the last few days, just fishing off the bay here. Caught the tiniest little snappers, more like sardines, lol. Then today, had a few hours to kill, went over to the bay, took about 10 minutes and had the most beautiful 15 inch snapper. Really made my day and I was only out there for about 10 minutes before he bit. Wanted to put the pic up of him but don't know how, so I used it on my profile pic instead. LOL. (He's the one with the gills) LOL. Well, sure hope this gets put on because I'm not sure how to use this blog, never did it before. Be safe and good fishing to all.

    Welcome Sue.

You have found the best place on the web.

I think your best bet for local intel, would be to head over to Stella Maris (sp???) in Sheepshead Bay and talk to the guys over there. They will be able to point you in the right direction.

Let me know if you would like to head out on a boat. I usually have room for one or two more and I may be able to answer a few questions that you may have.
