There is only one harpoon that you need for a CC and that is the POON Harpoon. The traditional POON is 10 ft in total length when assembled.

Earlier this year Kevin (Innovator) introduced a 2 ft shaft section to create a shorter, more CC/small boat friendly POON that measures right around 8 ft.

Storage may be your biggest advantage with the POON as it breaks down in a organized bag that is 4 ft in the length and very low profile- easily fitting into a gunnel locker or dry bilge area.

I highly suggest contacting Stew @ The HooK-Up and ordering up a POON. You will not be disappointed.

how the hell do you deal with that thing on a small boat? i have been running a 9' on a 33' and at times that seems a littl over the top?! never mind when i am out on the small boat

I keep my poon on my boat all season long. I store it RIGGED AT ALL TIMES. In the heat of the battle I don't want myself or someone else fumbling around and trying to piece the poon together. You just never know when you may need it. I use 5-99 cent velcro straps that you can buy at west marine and strap it about every 2 feet up the legs of the tower on my boat and have the dart line and ball neatly coiled in a milk crate. Just rip off the velcro and throw, thats all I got to do.

I second that Dan- My poon as always rigged and ready to fire. I dont think the size of the poon has anything to do with the size of your boat. I run a 25' express, it has MUCH less usable fighting space than even a 18 ft center console given that we can only fight out of the cockpit, and I have no problem stuffin the poon on it

very interesting i would have thought that more people in small boats would be interested in the shorter versions...

I only ask this becase I have a machine shop that is going to do up a handful for me and then they are off to the powder coater.

    thanks for the input.

    Thumbs up Stick and Gun

Poon stick is great, but if you can find a gun, like a Greener or Rolling block harpoon gun use it.

That's what I use. But I'm no poon expert.

Mine was a 14 footer compliments of Seeker. Thanks Vinnie! I cut the aluminum shaft down to about 6'. OAL is about 8' and it fits in the rod rack under the gunwhale. And the shank slips into a hole made for rod tips. Slick.

Obviously, it's not long enough to stick fish 15' away. But it's heavy enough that you can chuck it to make up the distance

I've also used the POON on occasion. It's probably the best harpoon available for a small boat. Then there's the DIY poon like Cold Waters - made from aluminum poles (like high flyer poles). I've never made one. But I know there are folks here that have/do.
