I'm sure with the tuna in town and all the dogs most of you probably haven't been groundfishing. I've heard the haddock bite started to pick up on Jeffries.
Any truth to this?? If so, the dogs must be thinning out cause haddock are almost exclusively bait fish.
We are fishing out of Hampton, so anything Jeffries or west is perfect for us.
Like I said, I'm sure very few have been groundfishing lately, but if you have or have seen them while tuna fishing, I'd love some intel.
Not sure how it's been in the last week or so, but before that I guess it was pretty slow unless you went to Platts. I guess that Old Scantum has had a good amount of bait on it right now(dogs too though), so you may want to check that out on your way to Jefferies.
We had a cod charter Saturday and fishing was pretty decent. I'm much farther South - fishing east of Stellwagon, but we had a nice pick in 240' out to 300' of water. Had to work a bunch of spots, and ended up much farther east than usual (hence the 300') but we ended up with about 50 keeper fish (about 30% Cod, the rest Haddock). Largest Cod was24lbs another 22lb and then we had some really good size haddock - the bigger haddock ate jigs.
I know I'm jinxing myself here, but the dogs weren't bad - but i think they've invaded inshore so much, we could have been east of them.
Also had a small bunch of giants push by a couple hundred feet away - got the blood pumping, but all we did was wave.
