great week end of bassin .lake erie

week end of 5-1-5-2, was a productive two days .water temp holding at 53,with a light west south west wind. ideal conditions. north east writers conference. along with, some major lure and rod and reel manufactures.were up on lake erie trying there skills on some smallmouth bass. the smallies were biting ,every body had a great time on the lake . al clemons a free lance writer boated his biggest smallmouth to date . 6.7 lb fish .casting a yum madigra tube bait in 23ft of water. jeff samsel also boated a 6 plus fish . his fish came on a emerald shinner in about 30 ft. lawrence taylor of pradco baits (lure net company) also had a great day on the lake . lawrence was impressed on the avarge size and qty erie had to offer. joe davis from zebco and quatom rods and reels caught some big smallmouth on live bait and plastics.
most of the bigger fish came out of 19 to 24 ft .fishing over rocky flats ,or staging areas. casting or verticle jigging tubes .live bait was a good bait to use also.
deeper smallies were more scattered. isolated boulders with chunk rock mixed in held the deeper fish . some of the deeper fish were holding on breaks ,with a 3 to 4ft change in depth.
as the water gets warmer fishing will get even better.

lake erie is one of the best smallmouth lakes in the country, . also muskies and largemouth bass in the niagara river .

awesome info, thank you, quick question if I may....Buffalo Harbour seems very protected. I am looking at going for some smallies on Saturday as the schedule (and the wife) finally permits it, however it looks like an ugly weather day. We wouldn`t be going out in to the main lake, only staying in the inside of the breakwalls..Your thoughts / experiences would be appreciated on a day in 20mph winds inside the walls...thx in advance
