Well my boat trailer was getting some new tires this weekend so she was unavailable for me to take my dad fishing. We have been looking to take my boat down to the cape to try and find some BIG bass. But a flat tire and an iffy spare for the long trip shot that idea before I even left the driveway.
So it was decided to take my dads 16 footer to try and find the biguns. Well as luck would have it and the tides finally in our favor, the big bass decided to cooperate.
At 5am I arrived and we quickly hit up our normal spot at down woods holes and we have 2 hrs out outgoing tide... Swweeettt perfect timing, foggy and perfect water temps. Perfect conditions for big bass.
I quickly let out a chuck of pogie into the current and am quickly tight, a nice fish at 35-36 inches. The rest of the tide was bass after bass all over 30" total tally 12-14 big bass a couple for the cooler and the rest off to get caught again.
So what do you do at 730 am with all the bass you need?? Call up some friends from Marthas Vineyard have them jump on the ferry and meet us at the ramp. Me and my dad regear for scup and sea bass and have some breakfast. Yummy last nights turkey and ham .
9 am rolls around..... 930..... finally 10am the 2 friends show up, and we head back out again to wait for the tides to switch again. My friend Tom gets tight on a nice scup, or as he thinks. As I look over the side and see a big black shadow. I yell out BIG sea bass. I quickly jump into action and bring the fish in. WOW the biggest one i've ever seen, the bass ended up weghing in at 6.1 LBS. Figgen huge for a sea bass.
Well its getting later and we have a good tide again time to try for some more bass. Hmm its sunny out and hot, and we get loaded with blues, we land 4-5 and break off a dozen more and a couple 30-33 in bass. Just as we are packing up i see my line start wizzing off, off we got a big one!!! My dad grabs the rod and lets out a little "whoa". 15 mins later and up comes a beast. A 47 1/2" 36 lb bass!!! It was a great fathers day and it was an even better day fishing.. Ill let the pics do the explaining.
DUDE! Nice work. Now that is a father's day to remember. I bet your pop was pretty excited to get that fish to the boat. Won't be long now...you'll be heading out with the 22' and a cooler full of 'hoo.
