Blyman Canal Bridge is scheduled to be operational today.
That’s good news & Saturday’s forecast is looking damn good, fingers crossed, first trip possibility!
Saturday: W wind 10 to 13 kt becoming SW in the afternoon. Mostly sunny. Seas around 1 ft.
We did our first trip on Saturday, ran out to The Mussels, 15 mile ride out and the boat ran great. We hooked a few sea robins on the first drift so we decided to make a short move. When I fired the engine up it had a very loud knocking noise… WTF! The rapping noise got louder and faster with more RPM’s so we headed back to port at 7mph (2hr ride) and called it quits. Our lines were only in the water for about 20 minutes total.
Already have an appointment with the mechanic for Tuesday morning…. Great way to start the 2012 fishing season… no joy!!!!!
Hey Bottom-Dweller, have you heard what the new Cod regs are going to be for 2012 yet?

Dropped the boat off to the mercury verado mechanic this morning, he’s pretty sure it’s not the engine but the lower unit, probably a gear with a missing tooth, says he’s seen this before and it makes everyone think it’s a terminal engine problem when it’s not. I’ll find out for sure in a couple days, hopefully not a big deal. The boat and motor were bought new about 20 months ago so this should all be warranty work, the suck pill is waiting for a quick turn around because the shop is slammed right now. I suspect it’ll be a couple weeks before I get it back…urrrrr!
When we got to The Mussels we only saw one other boat and he was on the North West Corner about 2 miles away, no idea if he was into any fish, wish I knew!
I should have been more specific with the cod reg’s, On The Edge is correct, I knew that but left it out. I should have just given you the link as he did, sorry!
Also, just incase you didn’t know is Pollock is 19” with unlimited bag… http://www.nero.noaa.gov/nero/regs/i...arterParty.pdf
Let me know how your new motor and trim tabs are working, hope the shake down goes well, fingers crossed.
