You all have likely seen the videos of giants in Canada, PEI
The amount of fish up there is unreal. Last year most provinces caught the quota in a matter of days. This year Nova Scotia filled their quota in just 2 days.
PEI's season will open Monday. They agreed to wait till late in the year to fish. Also, they are going to limit the catch for the first two weeks to only one fish per boat in order to not glut the market.
They have been fishing catch and release.
There is a guy who posts under the name Kilsong who is big time into jigging and light tackle. Last year he did a lot of standup east of Chatham.
Last week he went to PEI with Dennis Braid to do stand up.
Braid contends that he can land a giant on standup in at least half the time it takes on conventional 130's.
He uses 49-50 pounds of drag at strike and 65 pounds at full.
This guy Kilsong has been trying very lightweight rods instead of heavier ones.

The "feeding frenzy" one shows fish crashing next to the boat feeding on tossed herring.
The "top lure" one has him casting a hookless plug to giants. Every cast he gets 1-2-3-4 strikes by 600-1000 pound fish.
The "teaser" is him using the light rod--a 900 pound fish brought to the boat in 55 minutes. Also some footage of Braid on a fish.
