Giant on spin

Friday was a great day. I really wanted to land a giant before this fishery is shut down...I just feel like that's the next step for better or worse.

Went out on a buddy's boat in a very sloppy north wind which had the tuna whipped into a frenzy. Few boats around and tuna crashing hard all over made for an awesome day on the water. Several hookups on tuna on spin and fly made for steady action. We got to a point where we just tied on a hookless plug to watch the tuna crash it. The trophy fish came on a 80lb Rainshadow, Stella 20000, 80lb braid, 100lb Streamline wnind on leader and Ocean Lure halfbeak lure. I hooked it and managed it through the initial run. We determined it was a big fish and we wanted to do a team fight. I handed it off to Tyler who was visiting from Virginia and he did a good job but needed to hand it back off to me, I ratched down the drag and applied mega pressure to the fish, got it to the surface where it made another blistering run. That fish then ran me aroiund the boat and back and forth using the sloppy conditions and hard wind to thwart every effort to get him up again. Had it 120 feet under the boat and I handed it off to Billy whose fresh legs and back worked the fish up where I gaffed it right in the throat...game over at about the 75 minute mark. Taped at 74 inches.
