One & All,
I've been on the three inaugural trips to the Edge with Mike aboard the STRADIVARIUS looking to find a few of the denizens that inhabit those distant waters. All that can be said is that the Flight of the Valkyries (which is played as we leave the marina) is totally appropriate as this is a vessel that literally flies over the water.
The trip last Friday/Saturday featured some weather conditions that I'd describe as really nasty (and I know only too well what 'nasty' is all about). As Mike has mentioned, the STRADIVARIUS is a very stable fishing platform that simply tracks in a straight line even in the steady 35 knots of wind and 6- 9 footers breaking swells that we encountered on Saturday morning. While the results were somewhat average on the last trip, their were no other recent reports or decent satellite shots so we operated on historical water temps charts and the most likely places to plunk our lures (knew all about the Hudson, but don't like crowds). By-the-way, we didn't see or even hear another boat out there for the duration of the whole trip so no shared info was available.
I've run too many boats to count and this boat is probably the most nimble, seaworthy vessel of its size that I've been priviliged to operate when Mike needs a break during the 48- to 72 hour long safaris. As mentioned in a previous post, even running with a rolling, following sea, we managed 29 knots with no major problems in a very corregated seaway on the way back home.
This boat raises fish as we've had some blue marlin up in the spread on two of the three trips and the tuna have been very accomodating in regard to eating our offerings of either plastic or meat. There's little doubt that the STRADIVARIUS will win some tournaments in the future as she's got the speed, range, amenities, and fishability that few other boats of her class possess. I almost forgot to mention that the electonics suite found aboard are mind boggling and offer a huge advantage when coupled with experience.
We've been very fortunate to have some great guys aboard sharing what have produced some sights and fishing memories that surpass many that I've experienced in over three decades of charter fishing. I'm really looking forward to the next installment of what has become a true addiction- fishing the distant waters of the Northeast canyons with speed, style, and comfort.
