    You didn't convert kilo to lbs. It's actually $36.6 a pound with the current exchange rate of Yen.

    To get a return of $80 per lb, the fish would need to sell @ least 13500 Yen per kilo.

    How much would the fisherman actually get for that fish, after all the auction, shipping, and dealers expenses???????

    you cant look at "market highs" on fish and make proclamations on price without factoring in where the fish are caught...who is catching them...when they were caught ect. I know 5 guys who are fishing commercially and catching fish regularly both at georges, chatham, and or the bay. Noone is getting 20 plus bucks a pound. Sure there are a few fish selling high...but the average prices are under 15. I keep hearing 20 and 30 bucks...where did those fish come from?? Do you know?? Id like to know boat names and buyers/brokers on these consistent local 20 dollar plus fish because the companies I am following are NOT producing figures like that for anyone...except for a few occasional lottery fish. Im getting 12 to 13 on fish right now...and the quality is excellent. In fact the last fish we sold had the best color ive seen in years. 10 to 15 bucks...end of story

    easy way to convert from Yen per Kilo to $ per pound at todays exchange rate of 76.95 is divide the yen price per kilo by 170

    examples;

    if 3000 Yen per K that's $17.64 per pound
    if 3500 Yen per K that's $20.58 per pound
    if 4000 Yen per K that's $23.53 per pound

    Lately most fish hitting the main market in Japan have ranged from 3000-4000 so averaging $20.00
    Net back to the seller in the states would be something like $12.00
