General Fishing Purchases due to ESA listing?

Are people holding off on purchasing products before the ESA Listing decision?

I've got several things that I plan on purchasing once I find out either yes or no. Are you guys in retail seeing an lull in business?

I personally have struggled with the exact same question. With a decision coming at some point in may there are certain things that have to be done so the boats can go in and be ready. Last year the cities listing was at least in march so there was plenty of time to do things.

I would be curious to here from some retailers and even charter guys. Are people booking tuna charters of any sort?

The charter bookings are filling up fast as always, but we have had a ton of guys in looking at setups and waiting to pull the trigger. A lot are buying as well, but there is a feel of wait and see for the guys looking at full boat setups, or those looking to get into giant fishing. the sense is that regardless of the outcome there will be fishing this year, and everyone from the managers down say it would be a purely political deal if it were to pass. With Jane at the helm politics has trumped reason repeatedly but I for one am not really concerned about ESA going through.

While obviously we want to beat this damn listing, even in the worst case scenario we will be able to fish this season, at least that is my understanding. The initial decision comes in May, then they have 12 months to finalize that decision. So it would really be in May of 2012 that the things would go into place if the **** hits the fan.

But, again, we need to go all out and make sure we never have to get to that point. It is important that the right initial decision is made, will be a real pain if we have to fight to reverse a positive finding on the listing. Lots of work ahead. Logic would lead you think it has no chance, but remember who is in charge of NOAA.
