    General Category question?

It was mentioned in the Retention thread that people think some guy's will get a general category permit so that they can fish under those rules. How legal is it for a recreational vessel to apply for a General Cat license?? What are the requirements other than USCG Safety Regs.??? I am not thinking of doing anything like this but am curious how someone would/could do this if at all legally???

I also believe that the only certain rafts qualify for Comm fishing purposes--

"They" also have to pay to come out and find you and pick your sorry ass out of the drink when its cold and blowing 30. You may not like the cost of that equipment but its permission to play in the industry.

Everyone wants to be a fair weather commercial because there's so much money in it.

Hey Doug: - what's the average $$$ a run of the mill tuna fisherman makes after expenses. Say a guy with a 30' boat who catches and sells 5 fish per year. Does he even break even?

Honestly who's policing all this???? or who is suppose to be???

Last season I was stopped by the USCG on the western edge of the bank and we had a fish on board....they had no clue what the rules were under the Rec category and quite frankly could care less about the iced down fish in the bag......the date on my flares was of more concern........

I forced their hand at checking my permit, and made them call the mother ship whom also did not know the regs. They in turn had to radio Boston whom took our word that we were legit with the fish. The response was "we have it in a binder somewhere"......

Not trying to bash them but just saying.......I've talked to a few in the CG whom have said it's not uncommon for something like this to happen.

The way I see the fishery thing is it all pertains to MONEY!! If there is money involved, then it will bring with it dishonesty and greed (I'm not suggesting by anyone here).....and the fish become the collateral

Sorry to get off track Mike.....

License to sell $130. You need both the NMFS permit and a license to sell.
