Trailered to Marshfield early yesterday. Got to the ramp only to discover a blown bearing. Oh well, too early for anyplace to be open, so we splashed and took a ride in CC Bay. Headed toward Stellwagen and was amazed by the number of whales, birds, and vast amounts of sand eels. The whales were bubble feeding, and the eels were so thick that you couldn't get a cod jig through them without snagging one or two on the treble. It was nice to find keeper cod too on the west side of the bank, but nothing larger than 28" - 30". Ran back early to play with the trailer. Pulled the tire, brake drum, etc. to discover a badly marred spindle. Looks like a new axle will be needed. Like they say, it's a good thing we didn't catch more fish, because I couldn't afford them at that price per pound!
I wouldn't want to try that channel either at the lower end of a tide with the dredging operation there -- I doubt if you could squeeze through. I'm told they'll be done by the end of the month.
Nice report Charlie- we passed through there on Sunday, and it still looked good- birds and eels everywhere. No whale show for us, but it was just nice to be out there. It won't be long now before that place really wakes up...
