    FLORIDA FIRE DRILL....FISH REPORT

Hey fellow fish nuts, figured you all might like a fish report to help get you in the mood so here it goes.

Been here at my folks place in Sebastian since the Mass Bay Guides Seminar and I haven't placed sleep too high up in the priority class. Been chasing fish at the inlet on a daily and nightly schedule and to be very honest it hasn't been the usual Florida fun. The water has been much colder than normal for this time of year and the usual suspects have not been present to play.

So on Saturday evening we headed to the inlet to throw some shrimp and the bite was very slow. One lucky angler happened to catch a nice 50 lb. black drum but aside from that it was dull. On Sunday we made bait and took my wife and my two and a half year old out on the Indian river to make bait. Ladyfish were everywhere and my son was having a ball. We even inadvertantly fed one to a dolphin that wa lurking next o the boat.

So Monday arrives and we find ourselves, (me and Dad) at the Mosquito lagoon. Saw a few feeding reds on the flats that wanted to play but nothing too big to stretch the line. After 4 hours of the undersized reds we decided to tug on a bigger fish so we anchored up on a favorite spot my father fishes a lot. Wasn't long after we soaked baits and was on. I leaned back a little, set the hook and holy smokes it's a Florida fire drill! This fat girl made a swing to the right and then just as quick a swing to the left, now the line is parting the water, and next she decides to just run away. I look at Dad and said, "this is a cow, pull the anchor" and the chase was on. After a bunch of very tense moments and she was getting tired, finally I see her tail and now I know she's big. Her head popped up and I made a nice grab with my thumb, finally I get to hold my quarry. She was a warrior, it could have gone either way with a smallish St. Croix 10-20 lb. class and 14 lb. test line but we won. A 45" red as perty as could be! Just a real nice way to end the afternoon fishing with Dad. Hope you guys enjoy the story and pics.

    Ed,

Must have been a blast on that rod. Poor fish never had a chance with you tugging him out of the mangroves. Nothing better than having 3 generations of real fisherman on board.

Ladyfish are a bunch of fun on light tackle. That's a slab red. Nice day.
