Fishing the Hooter Sun 8/14

Vacationing with the family on Nantucket this week - brought my boat down from Cape Cod Bay and am hoping to catch some Bonito and BFT...

Had heard good things about Bonito fishing at the "Hooter" bouy, South of Wasque Point (explaining where I was going to the wife was kinda entertaining this morning). Ended up fishing the outgoing tide -- just 3 other boats working the E-W rip where it gets shallow. We caught just one bluefish on the troll -- other boats seemed to hook up, but I couldn't tell if they were also blues. But basically pretty dead - we had 1 minute of excitement when a small flock of birds started concentrating on one area, but it quickly dispersed.

Couple of questions: Is the Hooter only good on an incoming tide? We were trolling yo-zuri swimming plugs... is there a more preferred lure / method there? Lastly, the other boats seemed to troll VERY slowly from South to North crossing directly from the deep water to the shallow, whereas my instinct was to troll E-W along the rip... any opinions on the "right" way to fish at the Hooter? Obviously, going perpendicular to the other boats would have been pretty anti-social, so I sorta followed along in the same direction, but it seemed kind of strange. I also thought they were going way too slow for Bonito -- I would have though 3-4 knots minimum...

We passed tons of BFT and halfbeaks just inside the edge of Nantucket shoals between 5-10 miles south of MV. Draw a line from Veatch Canyon to Muskegat channel and head directly down it into Nantucket Shoals. No boats. Lots of tuna. Good luck
