Departed branford, ct 4:30 am aug 12 and ran to montauk for fuel, bait, ice, and breakfast. ran out to the tails and trolled from the head of the tails south around big eye mountain then back on to the east flats where I ran in to the viking star tolling westword from atlantis talked to him on 68 and said no tuna, just one white marlin. he continuied in to the tail and stopped at some of the flyers. It turned to the west crossed the tails on to the west flats and hit a double shot of bull mahi 43 & 44 inches. continued to troll the west flats for two more large mahi a 42" bull, and a 45" female one skip jack, one tiny puppy mako on a tuna clone mean little suker, he was determined to take a bite out of me for taking him out of the water. I removed the hook and released him unharmed. then we found a ball at the head of the canyon and set up for the night. The weather turned bad, heavy down poors and the wind picked up, At 1 am I hooked a sea monster, on a butter fish at 100 feet, I picked up the pole and pushed the drag to the stop and watched half the spool empty on my 50 wide, so I pushed in the stop and pushed it to full drag, the fish didn't even think about slowing down or turning. The fish headed for the bottom I started using my thumbs to add more drag, finnaly with less than a 50 yard of line left I jammed my thumb in to the spool and pulled for all I was worth, The line held but the hook tore out there was no damage to the hook or leader. I couln't turn or slow this fish down was like hooked a bus and it was going down town. the rain continued and the seas continued to build an the rain continued. Pulled the lines at 5 am and headed in I could only make about 6 knot and I was still pulling the props out of the water and taking water over the bow it stayed rough un till we got to about 20 miles out of the point got back to branford at 4 pm I will post some pic later today.
