fish report "doubles over the rail"

I dont have a lot of extra cash so I took a trip on a party boat out of Glouster MA. I was lucky to get the front spot on the boat. I was taking fish over the rail for most of the entire trip with most cod around 5 to 15lbs. Started the day with jig and teaser till around mid morning when things started to slow down then switched to three way set up of cape cod sand eel lures thats when I started to really crush them. People fishing bait did poorly. Will fish next week and post report and pics. double fish picture is with lure that is 7 1/2 inches to give fish size

here is A Three way set up
    1. sinker to snap-swivel
    2. 4ft of florocarbon leader
    3. 2 teasers
    4. barrel swivel to braid
    5. picture of three way set up

good post, Sunday's cod were filled with sand eels

Also saw very large bait balls between 50-70 feet on the SB on the sonar Sunday that were probably sand eels. Probably not macks, but might have been.

    3 way rig

I feel like that kid on the yamamoto commercial, but how do you work those things? let em sit on the rig or do you jig them. I used a similar jig two nights ago at plum island for the stripers and did well. Got my first keeper of the year at 31 inches, as well as a handful of smaller fish between 22 and 27. I tried EVERYTHING, but the only thing that produced was a sand eel imitation. Never thought of using them rigged like that cod fishing. nice work!

SCBASETH, I saw your post on Marshmarauders nice work pulling in a 31 this early. Are you just leaving them out in the surf with weight or are you cast and retrieving? I have seen similar setups used out at Race Point.

Talked to a friend who said the same thing about these sand eel lures, picked them up at surfland! is that where you bought them? Also I would recommend if you fish cod fish to stay with the jig and fly until the bite slows then switch to the three way set up to kick the bite back up.

I actually got them at fin and feather in Essex, but we went out Friday night as well and we were hitting them on the same thing. Can't wait till I get a chance to get out there in the mornings to throw around some top water. Thats always my go to plug on a spring morning. Mostly small fish on Friday, but this time of year I'll take anything! I'll be out cod fishing on Wednesday, so i'm going to make sure I bring those eels with me, thanks!

I found that starting the day with jig and fly teaser with a little bio edge was the ticket, but when the bait sounded around 10am those 3xhook sand eels started getting clobbered by cod and pollock. I did hook a fish on the sand eel that I could bearly move off the bottom for a good 4 to 5 min, I was using 80lb braid and 100florocarbon, the fish would come up halfway then strip the drag back to the bottom, my drag was also set tight, eventually the hook pulled from the fishes mouth, any ideas about what would be able to do such thing??? this time of year
