    First Tunas of 2011?

I heard reports of two tuna being taken this past weekend.

One was caught on a squid bar, the other on live bait, both somewhere out on Stellwagen. One of the fish was supposedly 78 inches in length.

    Can anybody confirm?

    Tight lines,

    Ryan

We were out on Sunday East of Chatham and we saw fish in that size range rolling on the surface but not biting what we were offering. Ton of life out there and foggy as hell.

Northern still open for BFT trophy

The Angling category North/South line is at 39°18’ N. lat. (off Great Egg Inlet, NJ). The annual Angling category trophy limit of one large medium or giant BFT per vessel (73” or greater) remains in effect for vessels fishing in the northern area.

I believe only the General Cat opens today

Angling Category- Starting April 2, 2011, NMFS adjustments the daily retention limit for private vessels to one school or large school BFT (measuring 27 to less than 59 inches) per vessel per day/trip and for charter/headboat vessels to one school BFT (measuring 27 to less than 47 inches) and one large school BFT (measuring 47 to less than 59 inches) per vessel per day/trip
