    What makes these "your" fish?

Bluefin Tuna have been harvested from the Mediterranean Sea since the time of Pliny the Elder, or perhaps even the Pharoes.

The truth is that the European and North African countries are much more efficient in utilizing their quotas from an economic standpoint. You wont see the Spanish or Maltese dealers harvesting their stock during periods of over-production with two-thirds of their shipments going unsold on the Tsukiji auction floor the way New England tuna fisherman fill up the U.S. quota during a red hot Chatham or Georges Bank bite while the Canadians simultaniously harvest 140 tons!

For the record, this is likely a Croatian or Turkish ranch. The Spanish farms use electric harpoons during their matanzas in order to minimize Yake. Still that was a nice kill shot!

This way its quick and all of those fish are going to die anyway!
In terms of how they die, its probably as good a way as any. Just reminded me of how that kind of efficiency let them catch so many tons over their quota up until this year and last. Good news is that things have improved on that front.

    Thursday's Mako is that you?...

Ranching may have its economic benefits in certain ways, but I will take our hand gear fishery over a seine-then-ranch fishery anytime! (To be clear though, as long as they follow their quotas over there, I could care less how they catch their fish. Again, emphasis goes on as long as they follow their quotas!)

While not always great for prices, its a good sign IMO that there are so many fish out there that rod and reel fisheries are able to catch so many so quick.

Yes. Unfortunately Thursdays were not very productive this season, as far as sharks were concerned (1 Mako/1 Thresher)

Luckily the great 40 Fathom Bluefin bite that lasted all summer down here made up for inconsistent sharking
