Email from PEW
Hey Guys,
I received this email this morning.
It is going to be a busy week for New England's fishing fleet - both on and off the water.
Saturday, April 30 marks the end of the first year of sector management for New England's cod, haddock and flounder fishermen. The new system sets annual catch limits on groundfish and divides the available catch among fishing cooperatives, called sectors. The past year has been challenging for some of our region's fishermen, but initial reports indicate positive results:
Catch limits have not been exceeded for any species.
Revenue is up for the fishery as a whole.
Discards of fish are way down.
Most catch limits are going up starting Sunday, May 1.
Small boat fishermen around New England are making it work.
Even the new system's toughest initial detractors now say it is the best way for the future of New England's groundfish industry.
If you are thinking about writing an "end of the first year" or "what lies ahead in year two" story, please consider speaking with Peter Baker, Northeast Fisheries Program Manager for Pew Environment Group. His recent op-ed published in Boston Herald outlined three ways to improve the system so it protects the small boat fleet and diverse port communities we value in New England. He can be reached at 508-641-4064 or pbaker@pewtrusts.org.
I also wanted to direct you to a new place to hear about the changes on the water, changes in regulations and changes in science, as they happen. Our partner Conservation Law Foundation has created a forum where science and data meet ideas and experience in an informed, respectful and lively conversation.

So the way I interpreted Nancy's email is that PEW would like me to write an article IN FAVOR of the catch share system.
Unfortunately for Nancy and PEW I am not that gullible.
How do you guys read this? If this was sent to me, I am going to assume that it has also been sent to MANY media outlets throughout New England.
Thanks for your insight,
Ryan
