    EEZ Striper Swipers

Just wanted to pass along some useful info. I was fishing southwest ledge off of Block Island the other day when the coast guard stopped by with a gentleman from the NMFS onboard. They asked if we had any stripers onboard and I replied yes we do have one in the box. Thats when they decided to board us and search the boat and check the docs. I was then informed that we were outside of the EEZ(by a couple of hundred feet). My mistake I thought we were within 3 miles of the corner. They took the fish and left me a ticket- NMFS will decide if there is a fine or not. Be careful driving around out there if you have stripers in the box. Marty

In Cape May they really keep an eye out for this! But most of the time the guys that get caught are the ones fishing way out in the EEZ. (12 miles) at the 5 fathom bank.
But a couple hundred feet? That sucks, hopefully you just get off with a warning.

    Next time

whan u see them coming, turn boat directly at them and slide the little striper (with hole in gut so does not float) out the back over the transom.

that is what they are educating us to do, right?
