East of the Tails 9/3 "onesy" report

by Ted Blount » Sun Sep 04, 2011 4:07 pm

Fished Saturday 10 miles east of the Tails. 71.4-71.14 along the 100 fathom curve. It was a onesy day:
    1 Wahoo
    1 YFT
    1 Albie
    1 Mahi
1 White Marlin bite, no hook up
    1 nice Bull Mahi lost
1 mph W wind until noon
1 boat seen all day "Double Down"
1 lousy ride by Block Island
    1 bite every hour

It was a grind it out day with most action near the high fliers. You had to stay in the 70 degree water, it wasn't a big area. Big baits on the surfice all morning, birds and sargasso weed so it looked fishy. No big fish. We took a chance and the weather was a lot better than expected. Inshore ride not so nice. Water at best was blue green where we fished, everywhere else dark and grey/green. It may be my last offshore trip of the season.

It won't be long 'til that nice warm water out at Veatch/E. Atlantis makes it's way West............if we don't get "hurricaned" again, the fishing will be GREAT!!!!

Thanks for the report....nice to hear. I'm gonna wait for this next hurricane to pass by. Hopefully, we won't get the usual 3 weeks of September Northeast wind!!!!!

    Ted,

Those wahoo steaks this week on the grill will remind you of why we go and do what we do! We always say on board that the worst part of the trip is always the last 15-20 miles on the inside of the Block. In fact we know we are going to get hammered by the inshore SW breeze, and it makes leaving the deep flat water even harder, especially when there is a good bite. Nice report.

    Endless summer

It may be the last offshore trip I do especially because I am mostly a day tripper. I am fortunate because I fish fall and winter out of Stuart, Florida for Sailfish. I haul my boat out and leave it in RI. Even more fortunate I leave for Tropic Star, Panama in two weeks for the Blue Marlin bite. Fishing is in my blood and have been offshore fishing since 1949. My income is derived from the sea.
Will post some stories and pictures when I get back.
    Be safe out there
    Ted
