    East of Chatham

Fished outside of Chatham yesterday in "Tuna Fever" in that wonderful NE wind. Not bad early on but really started to kick up by mid day. Started trolling in 90 ft of water up off of Nauset Beach. Had a fish come up and bite the short right rigger, Red Iguana splash bar, snap it out of the clip and take some drag and then pulled the hook. I got on the rod and he came back again but missed. Trolled around for a few more hours and well after the slack we found the bait and birds and got one on the Widowmaker left long that taped out at 46 inches. Set back out and tagged and released another one same size on the Chameleon bar right long rigger. By then it was getting rather sporty so we headed back for the barn. I know some guys were in the shallow water chasing these fish around with spinning gear too so there seems to be a good amount of these fish around. I will be out tagging tuna with the UMASS Tagging Team for the next three days so I hope thses little fish stay around. Just a note for anyone fishing this fall out east. The new break is starting to shoal up out by the B bouy. It was only 4 ft at half tide the other day. With the fall easterly winds starting you need to be careful there. I went out the new cut in the morning but once the easterly kicked up I came home the old cut. Just use your head with out going tides and easterly wind and low water with the new cut. Be safe. Capt. Eric

Good to see that at least some fish are around without running far north. Thanks for the heads-up on the new cut - I ran it a few weeks back on a 20kt SE wind and it was hairier than I'd like. I guess the current runs a lot harder than it looks - I always feel like my prop is losing grip when I'm running parallel to the beach.

Today we went 3 for 5 and got 2 PSAT tags out on mid 40 inch fish. Really good bite on the second slack. Broke one off on a chaffed stinger...ouch. Lots of fish around. Capt. Eric

2 for 2 yesterday and 4 for 4 today. Nice troll bite out east. We got 11 p-sat tags out on juve bluefin in three days for Dr. Molly's team. All good. "It's All About The Science" Capt. Eric

    Eric,

My buddy who was out with you this week (Dr. Chris Perkins) told me last night, "Why do I fish for stripers and blues?
I think Captain Eric gave me Tuna Fever." He is a doctor, so he should know. I'll convince him he needs a bigger boat.
You get him geared up at the shop. He doesn't know the fever will kill you unless it is fed.

    He had a ball!!!

    Hooking up

Whats everyone hooking up on out east of Chatham? I was out there Sat by Nauset as well and saw them pushing but they weren't taking anything. Threw live snapper blues at them, Pogy, trolled a single slug-go out long and two squid spreader bars with no luck at all.

Went 2 for 3 again today. Thick fog so it was tough fishing. We fish Playaction Splash bars rigged with Ocean Lure Squid and we catch'm pretty good. Capt. Eric

How far back do you typically run them. Way back since they have the bird?

Great bite today! We were one of the slow bite boats today only going 1 for 2 with most boats getting 3 bites to two fish. Our long rigger position is 100 yds back. Go long, go deep, and get the bites. Off the water for the next week, have to travel for business. Good luck. Capt. Eric
