it says they have the same #s strike/ max drag, I asked the Shimano rep the difference between the 2 he said the 80s drag, bearings, gears and shafts are beefier then the 50 wlrs

50's @ 25lb
80's and 130's @ 40 full strike in the rod holder.
But I learned on the internet this winter that my spinning reels need to be set at 60 or I should throw them away.
Sarcasm, Brah.
On my boat we fish Shimano 50 LRSA's set at 20lbs at full strike (but these have also have an "11" to get some extra drag). Caught 3 bft's last season in the 60" range released or boated within 15-20 mins. If we get a monster on the line we might have to palm the reel and increase the drag, but our lines are 80lb mono so I'm not sure I'd want to go much above 25-30lbs anyways (1/3 of line breaking strength). I think max drag on these reels is about 40.
Also, we subscribe to the "minimum drag while trolling" principle so when the fish first hits, the reels really scream until we lock the drag down. Am jonesing to hear that sound again soon!!!
