Some total BS!!! Remember that the commercial fisherman need to do this for a living. It's how they keep food on their table.

I remember seeing videos of this last year as well.
What can be done? When the NMFS meets to decide what to do...they will simply blame it on the recreationals.![]()

Hollywood, here I come. Swimmin pools and movie stars
I'm no expert here by any stretch. But I'm getting an unexpected crash course. They say history repeats itself.
Nantucket whaling fleet...gone
Gloucester sword fleet...gone
Northeast bluefin tuna fleet...don't even get me started
It's not rocket science. Unfortunately, it's economics and politics

Hey guys,
I just read a prelimanary summary report from the Acting Chief of the Observer Program that clearly shows there was a mid water trawler observed to have bycatch of striped bass east of the lanes in October. This is going to shoot a hole in Diodati's and the Industry's claim that these boats were not in the area. It is one thing to have bad regs that need changing. It is another to blame large bycatch incidents on smaller operations trying to survive. The Mid Water Trawl Fleet will not be let off the hook this time. 20 plus thousand pounds of Haddock in a Groundfish closed area observed in only 8 trips and denial that they were even fishing the area where they were observed dumping Stripers. Time to put the foot down.
Web Site Launch is iminent...www.honestbycatch.com
We'll let you know when it is time to act and that time is comign soon.
Hey all,
A quick follow up. This video and other events this past fall have caused a bunch of actions. Currently, the New England Fisheries Management Council is developing new ByCatch/Observer regulations for the Herring Fleet. It is in the middle of a tough fight but we are making slight headway. Also, because of the "suspected" effect this fishery is having on River Herring the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries commission has a section on River Herring By Catch in development of the ongoing new River Herring Ammendment. All of these actions are ongoing and the Industry is fighting us tooth and nail the whole way. We need support when we ask for it and info will be distibuted through web sites etc.
I have launched www.HonestByCatch.com which has the evidence and more info for all to see. In January we are launching a Media Campaign to make fishermen aware of the issue.
Anyone who had pics or video that I can use in ads and on the web site please send me an e-mail at BasicPatrick@aol.com
Thanks
I'll send you what I got when I get home.
