LEMME KNOW HOW I CAN HELP...
It's too bad these commercial guys are forced to kill those fish in order to make a living. Damn NMFS at it again.
In today's Boston Globe online....
Good job getting this out there Chum, goes to show that the resource management in the country is managing to kill our resources

Isn't it amazing what video can do. On thing that's a bit surprising to me is that they say bycatch in this area is "normal". So I guess to some this is acceptable? Interesting.
What a DBAG this guy Ellenton is, he did gives us tips on how to catch him though. Next year I will have the cam with me and will keep an eye out for his boats , anyone know the names of his boats ( Deathstar and Hypocricy)?![]()
I don't know what the name of his boats are, but if you go to their website www.capeseafoods.com, they have a picture of the boats. When you see them out there, you will know that its them. They are huge and pretty distinctive blue boats with some logo of some sort on the front. Basically they look like floating factories.
Same boats that I've seen set a course right over the NWC to go off to wherever they were fishing and didn't really give a shit that there were 300 other boats with lines in the water, they just steamed right through the fleet.
By the way... this thread has now received more views than the New England Role Call thread which was started over a year and a half ago. This thread is only 22 days old!
Challenger, Endeavor and Voyager.
To put into perspective how big they are, check out these two pair trawling past a WW boat:

(edit- thats Cape Ann in the background of that picture. Someone asked me that offline, so figured would point it out here incase anyone else was wondering...)

Wow, Chum, you've really stuck your foot in it this time...all the way up past the scar. You've done a good thing though; sometimes we need to get stinky to bring about a change for the better.
An observation on the video, as Ellenton said in the Gloucester Times article, there's no sign of another vessel. TwoFin brought up some excellent points on making a video stand up in a judicial court. The problem is that if this fish kill is a result of midwater trawling, it's all perfectly legal, therefore, no judicial court. The laws need to change, not the commercial fishermen.
To change the law you have to make more people aware of the problem. Mr. Chum, you may have just started that ball rolling--WTG. I like Mzajac's idea of posting the video on YouTube.com. For maximum exposure, and to get the Montana vote, you'll have to retitle the clip "Topless Bikini Babes and Disgusting Fish Video." (Are they still bikinis if they are topless?)
It's also strange that in the 83 seconds (that's 1 minute, 23 seconds, minus two hours for the SFC members in New Mexico) of video I saw only one bird (and it was just flying along) and no sign of shark or shark attack. I would think that many dead and dying fish would ring the dinner bell from Hudson Canyon to the Isle of Shoals.
All that said, you done good, Bro. I don't care what Ellenwinkle says.
