That is a shame and total disrespect for our resource, if in fact, it was caused by a human.

Back when I kept my boat in Jersey City, we would fish the east river around the United Nations building. We would see fish all over the place just floating on top of the water kicking a little. This was from anglers fighting the fish on light tackle and just throwing them back in the water with out reviving them.

We we would go around and pick up these fish, revive them and send them on their merry way. Sometimes it takes up to 20 min or more to get them back to the point where they can swim off by themselves. But in my opinion it is well worth the effort.

There is just no excuses for leaving a fish to die for no reason at all.

If your not going to eat it, make sure you send them off healthy to fight another day.

That's bullshit!!! you should definately send that video in to the DMF and whoever else you can think of along with your position. Whether they were caught in a gillnet or a scallop dredge that should not be allowed at all!!! At the very least not this time of the year when spawning stripers are migrating. Just a sad sight. I saw something like that about 5 years ago out by the BB bouy and they were even bigger fish, nothing smaller than 40ish inches.

Size wise...I'd guess 35+. Certainly, all keepers. I have more video. We picked up a few for a closer look. We actually debated keeping one for dinner, looked at each, looked at the gulls pecking at them and said nahhhh.

Impossible to tell how many were out there. Maybe 100s? Like Shoe said, too many for us to handle. Since this was outside the EEZ, it's illegal to keep them. And I seriously doubt a comm boat is going to take the time/effort to revive 'em. A sad, sad situation there, my friends.

But, I'll tell you what... Once the sharks found them, I bet it was mako/whiptail city. Can't believe I just said that.

That sucks. Did you see a dragger in the area chum? Sucks about the boat troubles, I bet there were some nice makos cruising in the area shortly after you left.

First time I went to the BB was 96; first time I saw dead stripers floating was 96; I've seen it at least 6-8 times since.

I've kept one in the past and would do so again. I'd put my bets on dogfish, not sharks out there....

That video makes me sick. With all the regulations in place to sustain maximum yield (I hate that term) you would think we would all find a way to make our fishery what it once was.
Why do have to wait till a certain fishery collapses in order to make changes.

    answer these questions for me.

Why no limit on haddock,They seem abundant now but for how long?
Why is the Striper fishery the worst it has been in 10 years?
How come inshore cod is almost nonexistant?
Why do biologists say the Dogfish is threatened when every time you drop a jig they make up a majority of your catch.

this all leaves me outraged. Who the f##k is in charge and how do we as a collective group of anglers remove their heads from their asses?
Let me say I have no problem with commercial fishing when it is done responsibly, as I have done my share ,but we need changes now.
We spend alot of money in this game and we need better representation with the people that make the rules.

Sorry I'll get off my soapbox now I just really feel strongly about this.

Thanks for the video Chum keep em coming. Giggy

Get use to the sight boys, the area 1A just opened to the pair trawlers again. They already got big problems with the hadock bycatch

    Chum,
Put that video on YOUTUBE so more than just fisherman can see it for exposure. Also send it to DMF and the other regulatory agencies. I was out there and saw the same thing. It is sad and disheartening to see beautiful breeding fish killed for no other reason than they were in the wrong place when the net went by. I can only imagine how many are killed this way every year.
