Where & what ever happened to all the stick boats that used to leave the New Bedford harbor back in the 70's & 80's ????? Does anyone know. Or did they also convert to long lining too, so they could catch everything in the waters....?
I'll continue watching since it's the only show on tv that's even a little interesting. However,I think the show will be detrimental to ALL fishermen, after all the bunnie-huggers see the dead babies thrown back dead, and makos with darts in them thrown back as well. We're all going to take it in the ass over this show.![]()
I am pretty sure that they sell the makos, and release say the blue, tiger white sharks...porbeagles AND makos are sold until the quota is reached
The issue I have with this type of fishing is the bi catch that they pull up dead and throw back in .. If they showed that no one would watch the show.. on another note this show compares to lobster wars.. boring..

I think you would all be very surprised regarding the LACK of bycatch in long lining, especially to the eastern canyons and grand banks, I made a few trips in college with a guy that is on the sea hawk now and i will tell you that there was very little bycatch. dont forget it is not profitable to be tearing up gear and wasting time out there with anything that cannot be sold. with that being said i cannot for the life of me see how gaffing pup swordfish on tv will help anyones cause?
The Show = Yawn!!
But I'm still sucked into it a little, like others have said, the local flavor, names of people, Linda's connection to Maine waters....Linda is kind of like the Joan Benoit (Maine Gold Medal Marathon Olympian) of swording
Also, if anyone has read any of Linda's books (I think 4 books now, they were all pretty good) ~ especially her version of the Perfect Storm from where she was fishing when the Andrea Gail went down (forget the name now)
I would think they wouldn't gaff pups if only for the reason that those are they fish they will be making money from in a few years. I dunno...
I read All Fishermen are Liars a few years back. I don't remember much about it but I do remember I enjoyed reading it.
One, how come the fish seem so lathargic when they pull them on the boat and two, how they gaff them through the eye a lot of the time?
