    Linda Greenlaw's book talks about using squid and dying them various colors and adding a lightstick.

    I was surprised to see 1) mackerel and 2) hooked through the tail and yes - I will be doing a side by side experiment this weekend weather willing.

    Reality for me is that any dead bait instantly gets replaced with live squid if we are lucky enough to get them.

    I wanna get in on the action i see your $25 and raise $50. I personally was a huge fan of the calming the mako technique tapping him on the head. I tried it on my girlfriend cuz she s mean like a mako but it just pissed her off more.

    I have to agree with you LB. Live bait in my opinion is better then dead.
    I remember in the movie the perfect storm they used macks as well but figured it was a movie thing. Now seeing them use macks for reel has me thinking there may be somthing to it. I too saw the hook through the tail and the guy explaining how the sword takes the bait head first. Next trip to the edge i will be putting out one of each as well..

    been hookin em through the tail for years....when you fire it down it appears to be swimming and tends to spin less and "it is different" from what every weekend warrior learned in big Es class
