Very happy with my Sony HDR-11, but I don't think they make it anymore. Some people go the cheap(er), which I can't blame them because after all you are on a boat in the salt water. Let us know what you choose, and shoot away......

If I remember correctly this is one that was brought up in past threads. Plus it's waterproof.

I'm no expert or professional by any stretch. But, I like the Canon Elph pocket cams. They're compact, inexpensive and shoot great pics and 1080 HD vids! And at 200 bucks, I don't have to worry too much. It doesn't matter how much I try to take care of them, somehow, someway, they get damaged or lost. I think my last one wound up in the garbage. Last time I saw it, I carefully put it into a dry plastic grocery bag and I think someone thought it was trash. Gonzo.

I've also tried different media over the years. Forget hard disks, CD/DVD, tape, etc. Flash is, by far, the best. Durable, portable and reliable. BUT, remember to download to computer asap. If your cam goes overboard or tossed in the trash, at least you won't lose an entire season of vids

There are also bullet cams with separate recorders. Some of these are slick and will continually record. Lots of options.
