I just had one of my 50 tw's loaded with 450 yards of dacron with a 100 yard 130# mono top shot for around 65 bucks. I've had dacron on some reels for over 10 years with no rot or wear problems. I do however replace the top shot every other year.

Why do you guys run such heavy line on a 50 reel? I just run 80# mono with no problems.

Why risk keeping your topshot on for two seasons?? Doesn't make sense. It's cheap insurance to change out each season, sometimes more than once a season.

What does dacron actually break at in the 130 pound range and is it more resistant than braid?

i don't konw what i'm going to actually do yet since this is only the second season with straight 80# mono. This winter is when i'm going to switch all the reels over. I am sure i will go to my regular offshore haunt and ask them to do it and set it up the way they set up their reels. But since i was getting some new wire i thought i might just ask the guy. thanks for all the helpful info about different options.
