Crimson Tide Charters - Haddock Hunt

70 degree weather, 1 foot seas, and all the haddock you could want and did I mention it's only March.

We shoved off at a leisurely 7am start and headed out to the northern part of Stellwagen Bank. On board was yours truly, Get Reel, Paul, and Mark. Captain Fred was home dealing with a water situation of another kind. We arrived on site appox 8am to find a slow pick of short cod in 125' of water. A short move later and we are back into the motherload of cod with doubles the norm and a few porkers mixed in. Can't wait for April 15th!!!!!!!! It's gonna be a hell of a season.

OK, cod are great but we need to get some fish in the box!!!! So off we went to some early season haddock numbers I had from past years. We pulled up a little short of the spot and NADA!!!! A short move later and we discover that familiar Stellwagen scene - Whales bubble feeding, porpoises cruising all around, sand eels shimmering on the surface and best of all HADDOCK lurking beneath it all. A nice steady pick of honker haddock continued for the next few hours with the average size around 27".

High hook of the day went to Will with this corker cod caught on a jig. All cod were caught on jigs and all haddock were caught on bait. Size and color didn't seem to matter. Tight Lines!!

Northern part of the bank is littered with them. The rest of the bank was void of all boat traffic all together.

How do you find the release rate to be on the cod? I have been wondering if some guys went out chasing haddock and had to release the cod how productive that would be.
