    Costa Rica

I'm going to be in Playa Granda which is near Tamarindo and wondering if anyone has any 1st hand exp. with any boats? I hate getting ripped off when you go to someplace with no knowledg . I'd be happy with roosterfish, etc. I really don't want to troll all day for sails etc, as I'd rather bend lighter tackle all day.
I'll be there in march and wondering what is the best to try for.
    Thanks, George

Get in touch with Darrell at Billfish Safaris out of Marina Papagayo. He's got several boats and several price points. Excellent crews and they'll target what you want to target.

At that time of year the sailfishing is slow in that area, so your best bet is to stick with the inshore fishing.

I fished out of Tamarindo w/ Capt. Randy on the Tailwalker in late Febraury of '05. We chartered him for five straight days We averaged 3 marlin releases a day for five days, caught a bunch of little yellows, a bunch of (BIG) mahi, a few wahoo, only a couple of sailfish. This guy seriously knows what he is doing.....and will not tell you the fishing is good when it's not. He is usually booked far in advance. He has two mates, they treat you like royalty, there's always fresh fruit, sandwiches, and drinks offered. My memories of the trips we took with him are very clear in my mind, even after six years, cause it was such a great experience.
