yes yes im going back, its going to be 30 of us, all my fathers friends and friends of friends. it should be a good time most of the guys are a bigger pain in the ass than i am. its going to be a blast want to come dstriper?????
We got blown out twice this week, but managed to get Saturdays trip in.
Southern part of the bank had a ridiculous number of shorts, managed 2 dozen keepers - couple of haddock went 10lbs.
There were a couple of small porbeagles around, chomping the shorts that were released -- might bring a 50 out next trip to spice things up if its slow.
Should pick back up after the new moon.
no pics - too cold and nasty.
Jay, its funny you should mention that you saw Porpeagles on Saturday because I saw a fin about 100 yards from us on the NW corner that I am 100% sure belonged to a shark. I may be bringing some heavier gear out with me this comming weekedn as well.
Let Sandwich 8:30 headed north aest light wind from East went 25.5 miles to the depth of 200-210 jiged like a ******* nothing went toward the BE bouy north found a nice hump about 78'- 85' Fish all stacked up just like they were waiting for us. It didn't take long me and my bud hooked right up doubles all day. Alot of shorts but picked thru and found drifting to the north we seemed to find the fish we were looking for all about 25' to 27' nice fat Cod. No Haddock at all. the jigs we were using 14oz with Pink and White teasers. we slammed them all day. About 70 to 80 fish , 20 good keepers. Retrurned to Sandwich about 3:00 pm Thats when all the bad luck started to happen. First the winch cable broke, oh well got it on the safety chain and i'm going home. Second my bearings went about a half mile down the road, not good. jacked trailer removed front tire maybe drive on 3 wheels not a chance trailer bottomed out on jack, things are not looking so good right now. Called AAA nope we don't do trailers, Called a local towing co. they wanted to put it on a flat bed picture my boat 24' Sport Craft on a flatbed with trailer it's already 12' in the air without the flat bed i love my boat to much to see my T- top get ripped off. So i draged it about a mile to the local shop. Sounds like a really bad day But we did get some great fishing in, the weather was great and they say shit happens well it does but it does not always let you leave with enough keeper Cod to make you forget about all the rest. Trailers ready now just looking for another break and not with any of my equipment. Good luck to all try the South Eat edge of the bank. Oh by the way Nothing on bait (clams)
Dan - I think it's a good call to bring the gear. That many shorts going back in every day and struggling to get back down is just one big live chum slick.
Get a good one.
Therapy - tough sounding day - glad you caught enough to be happy inspite of all that.
Me (mate) to charter reeling in one of the many 24" cod out there: Ok, I can see it, keep it there for a sec in case the shark comes around
Charter (before he got sick): Funny look then "OK"
Captain walks back to check on the action
Me: Wow, looks like a keeper. Let's get her in here (while giving look to shut up and just reel in)
Wrap-Check summed up the the day perfectly minus the 4 (of 6) charters that got sick during a snotty day....silly bachelor weekends.....
Therapy:Summed up my worst trailering nightmare....I always carry 2 of everything along with necessary tools. Glad you and the boat made it home....eventually.
