Cod fishing on the Sunbeam Express

Went codfishing on the Sunbeam Express Sun. 2/28/10.
The bite was non-existent in the morning, then about noon
it turned on. I was using a c-creature cod rig and was high hook on double headers. We had lot of shorts but, everyone
had some keepers. The pool winner was 13-14 lbs.

How long was the ride out??

Party boat cod fishing is something I have never done, was thinking about jumping onboard to cure some cabin fever.

Any tips?

The ride is 2.5 to 3 hrs. depending on where they go.
The boat has a heated bunk room and plenty of
seating for an enjoyable ride. You have to call
for a reservation, the number is 860-443-7259.

I had my first experience on a head boat this fall and had a good time. i couldn't imagine fishing on it in the summer as the only people fishing in the fall and winter are guys who are nuts and/or know what they are doing...

Anyway, I went on Walsh's and am looking to do some Cod fishing this month but Walsh's is out of commission. Anyone know a boat that is almost as good as Walsh's (I can't imagine a boat being as good) leaving relatively close from Boston?

I think Sunbeam is too far away for a guy from Boston to travel. Where did Sunbeam fish for Cod? I have to imagine that the Cod will be coming in thick soon...

There is nobody as good as Walsh for headboat fishing.
The Sunbeam fishes off of Block. The best fishing the last few
years has been in Jan. and Feb.. The fishing in the spring
can be good though. As far as up north goes, I don't think
there is anybody fishing now.

There are some good boat's in gloucester think cod season is april 15th.

nice job making rigs for all types of fishing.

if you want to go now you have to go south. It's
been hit or miss here but, more hit than miss.

More info for the cod guys. RI has had a banner season so far codding. Many trips have been limited out with many fish weighing in at high teens to upper twenties. Pool winners have typically been 22-28 lbs. Aside from the Frances Fleet out of Gallillee whom I recommend (great crew), there is also three boats running from Snug Harbor Marina daily. The Island Current, the Sea Otter, and the Bounty Hunter have really been putting the screws to the mudders and the weather has finally changed for the better so take a day off and get on it. Note that these boats are shoving off a little earlier than other boats so call Snug Harbor @(401)783-7766 to get times or you can check out individual boat websites for more info. 4a.m. and 4:30 a.m. seems to be the normal departure time.

The Sunbeam has just added codfishing back into
there schedule recently so, there not filling up like
the R.I. boats. They have been going with 20 - 24
guys. On that boat it means there is plenty of elbow room.
