Cod fishing 9/24, fresh bait help in Boston

weather permitting, i'm going to try and do some cod fishing tomorrow. showing to be a bit foggy, but we'll see. may have to stay closer to the rocks and throw plugs for bass and blues. taking a friend who hasn't doesn't get to do much fishing (two kids). i don't have time to harvest my own clams, so i need some suggestions for fresh bait/clams in the boston area. any suggestions for me? thanks.

    Fresh clams are great...for dogfish

As I stated earlier this season, 2011 is the year to start learning and expanding my knowledge of our local waters, and this weekend was no different...learning that is. Took two good friends who don't have the opportunity to fish from a boat all that often out to do some cod fishing. Like many of us, just being on the water is enough to satisfy them. After dealing with the plumber all morning, we left the dock after lunch and headed east out of Boston to 280' and started jigging for cod. Dropped in different locations, couldn't catch anything but dogfish. Catching all these dogfish allowed me to change the colors of my teasers/grubs often, still couldn’t get us dialed in. I was frustrated, but they enjoyed catching and reeling so it didn't really matter. Watching one reel up from 280' using my old Penn Jiggmaster 500 vs the other using my Avet was pretty funny…especially the $hit talk that ensued. Kev on the Jiggmaster had no idea about the 6:1 ratio and why it was taking him so much longer to reel in. Good times. Did this for a couple hours, decided to call it and fish near and around the islands with chunks with weights and fishfinders. The Jiggmaster got tight to a big blue that ate through the floro at the boat. Had something much bigger on the Avet that spit the hook after several minutes, no line chaff so I assume it was a nice bass. Called it a day just after 9pm. It was a slower day than I would have liked, but these guys got a chance to pull up some fish from the deep, as well as catch something while chunking, so good times had by all. Hopefully these evening tides will produce some fish after work, as I’m anxious to get out and fish the night bite.
