    Cod 5-16

    Or lack of them.

Went on a charter today with my dad and his colleagues out of Seabrook with Eastmans. The fishing was horrible. We left the dock about 20 past seven, fishing by 8:15. One short cod on the first stop, then the captain says we're heading in??? Well, turns out while ~ 25-30 of us are fishing, 10-15 are sick. So we dropped them off and headed back out. There's two hours down the drain. Get back out, just couldn't catch the fish. They were there but wouldn't bite. We were fishing 30-40 fathoms 6-10 miles offshore on pure mud bottom. Don't know where, exactly but I'm sure most of you would be able to figure it out. So, long story short, three keeper cod boated all day ON THE WHOLE BOAT. I had one foul hooked plus a lobstah that I also foul hooked. Jigged all day. The fishing sucked. Well, I shouldn't complain, I got a day off from school and won $200 for the third year in a row. Everyone that goes hates me Even though the seas were 5-6' with the occasional 8-10', I still had a good time.

No pics because there was nothing worth taking pics of, won the pool with a 4 pounder, a real monstah. foul hooked in the head.

Talking to the mate, he said the macks are in and they are running half day boats. They havent been able to get enough people to go, but across the river in Hampton Al Gauron's has been hitting the macks okay.

Hey man- at least you weren't stuck in a cubicle all day! That's great that the macks are starting to show...

I heard Gaurons didn't do so well today as well. I heard from some one there were 13 cod for 11 people. I hope the fishing picks up, I have a 2 day slob cod charter with Eastman's in 2 weeks.

Fintan! Sorry your day wasn't more productive. Oh well, at least you won something. I went cod fishing last Friday and it cost me a new axle on the trailer.

Yeah my dad and I will be taking our boat up in a couple of weeks (skipping school again) to load up on macks for bait for the season. We usually go half day macks/half day cod. I think the cod fishing will explode in the next few days. All the signs are there, couple days the big ones will start coming up. I guess what was happening was the bottom was flat mud with no structure, so when the capt. went over the fish came back around and tried to set the hook they would be gone. I guess they didn't stop moving all day. Just one of those days.........

Sounds like today was the day to go. Capt. Phil said he had a charter today with the biggest ones being 54, 43, and 33 and 25 others in the 20's. Phil also said the big ones too bait and all he could get while jigging was a couple in the teens. Also according to Gaurons site they had a 75 POUND COD today.

Checked Eastmans site, too. Cod into the 50s. Now I'm sorta mad, one day later, we would have had some massive cod. But hey, that's how it goes, right? Can't win 'em all

Charlie-Wow a new axle. Ouch! That'll put you out for a while.

Best of luck with a speedy repair!
