    PLYMOUTH —

The Coast Guard rescued two Rhode Island men after their 15-foot fishing boat sank about two miles off the Plymouth coast early Wednesday.

One of the men, David Hansen was found floating in the water unconscious. The other man, Wayne Carlson, also of Kingston, R.I., was clinging to a buoy just outside of Plymouth Harbor, the Coast Guard said.

The men were spotted at about 2:30 a.m. by the crew of a Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod.

Both men were wearing life jackets. They were taken to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth.

The water temperature at the time was 46 degrees.

    From the Globe:

A 19-year-old man has died after a 15-foot recreational boat he was in sank about two miles east of Plymouth Harbor late Tuesday night, the Coast Guard said.

The man was identified by the Coast Guard and Plymouth police today as David Hanson of Kingston, Mass.

Earlier today, the Coast Guard had erroneously reported the victim was from Rhode Island and had also provided a different spelling for his surname.

According to the Coast Guard and the Plymouth harbormaster, authorities received a distress call at 11:22 p.m. Tuesday from the boat, reporting that it was taking on water.

Around 1 a.m., a friend of the missing men told officials the men had planned to travel from Kingston Bay to Plymouth Harbor, helping officials to narrow their search.

Around 2 a.m., a Coast Guard boat found a second man, identified as Wayne Carlson, clinging to a buoy near Plymouth Harbor.

Carlson, 20, is also from Kingston, Mass., not Rhode Island as the Coast Guard had originally said. Carlson was transported to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth where he was treated and released.

About 30 minutes after Carlson was found, a Jayhawk helicopter spotted Hanson and directed the 47-foot Coast Guard boat to his location. Hanson was unconscious and was transported to Jordan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Both men were wearing lifejackets, the Coast Guard said. Air temperature was 46 degrees with winds of about 5 miles per hour; the water temperature was 57 degrees.

Plymouth Police, State Police, and the Coast Guard are investigating the incident, officials said.

another reason that I am buying a PLB this season. If he had one, he could have been plucked out of the water before midnite, might have lived.
    Tragic.

Lets not be hasty on saying they were out to far. I used to run between Plymouth/Kingston/Duxbury in a 13' whaler all summer long. If you are inside the buglight then you are pretty well protected as it is all really one big harbor. If they were running from Kinston to Plymouth they really were not out that far, 2 miles still puts them inside the outer beach.

    Tragic accident.

Here's that 50-50-50 law coming into play once again!
And I believe your 50% chance of survival is during daylight hours. Not very good numbers, now add 11:30 p.m. into the equation.

We're all going to be on the hunt real hard, very soon. Many leave the docks before daylight. Go through a what if scenario in your heads boys, try to think of everything. It may just save YOUR life.
